
Described as a violist with “a gorgeously clear timbre… a refreshing rarity” (Sean MacLean, Classical KING 98.1 FM), John Crowley is pursuing a Master of Music degree at the Juilliard School in the studio of Carol Rodland. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree with distinction and Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with Phillip Ying. John is the winner of Eastman’s 2023 viola competition, and subsequently made his debut as a soloist with the Eastman Philharmonia in the same year. He has performed in the New York Philharmonic and has served as the principal violist of Eastman Philharmonia, AXIOM, and Juilliard Chamber Orchestra.
John is originally from the Capital District of New York, where he started playing viola at his local public school. In his free time, he enjoys composing, hiking, cycling, cooking, and trying new foods.
