
Isabel Chen, of Northbrook, Illinois, grew up studying at the Music Institute of Chicago, and has become passionate about string quartet, early music, teaching, and improvisation.
For various ensemble and solo performances, she has performed in venues including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Symphony Hall in Boston, Nichols Concert Hall, and Jordan Hall.
She has been broadcasted on 98.7 WFMT’s Introductions, and is a member of the Boston Philharmonic. She will be the soloist for Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons with the Fenimore Chamber Orchestra in December 2026.
She performed the Christmas Oratorio with the Winchendon Music Festival players as part of Music Worcester’s The Complete Bach project. She has also enjoyed singing early works in the Schola Cantorum of Rochester, NY, and Night Song in Cambridge, MA. This past year, she collaborated with non-classical musicians on contemporary works involving free improvisation. One of her favorite memories include getting to meet Anthony Braxton and perform his music.
Isabel is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Violin Performance with a Concentration in Teaching Artistry at the New England Conservatory with Ayano Ninomiya. When she is not practicing, she loves watching short films, freestyling dishes and desserts, and taking countless pictures of food and travels.
